Bobby Christy explaining why competitors can copy marketing content but cannot copy accumulated authority.

Copy Where I’ve Been—Not Where I’m Going

August 24, 20263 min read

Go ahead and copy me. You’ll still be copying where I’ve been—not where I’m going.

I developed the Authority Framework™ and built TW3 Marketing around a simple progression: build trust, build authority, build your business.

Now I’m seeing marketing agencies borrow the language, create their own audits, imitate the approach, and swipe parts of the content. People ask if that bothers me.

Honestly, not much.

Their imitation doesn’t make me question the framework. It reinforces that I saw something worth building before they did.

But here’s what most copycats miss: they’re copying the finished product without understanding the experience, testing, judgment, and original thinking that produced it. They’re copying what I’ve already done, but they don’t know what I’m going to do next.

That’s what makes authority a real competitive advantage.

A competitor can copy your offer, website, messaging, and content. What it cannot instantly copy are your customer relationships, documented results, reputation, experience, or the trust you’ve earned over time.

It can copy the appearance of authority. It cannot copy the authority itself.

They can copy the work. They can’t copy what made the work possible.

What has your business earned that a competitor couldn’t reproduce in 90 days?

FAQ

Can competitors legally copy my marketing content?

Competitors can imitate general ideas, topics, offers, and marketing approaches, but directly reproducing original wording, graphics, or other protected creative work may cross a legal line. The practical defense is to document your original work, consistently associate your name with your framework, and continue developing ideas that imitators cannot anticipate. Consult an intellectual-property attorney when specific copying creates a serious business concern.

What makes business authority difficult to copy?

Authority is built from accumulated evidence: experience, customer relationships, documented results, reviews, original thinking, third-party recognition, and consistent performance. A competitor can imitate the appearance of authority, but it cannot instantly reproduce the history and trust that make your claims believable.

How can I protect an original business framework?

Give the framework a distinctive name, document when and how you developed it, publish your thinking consistently, and consider appropriate trademark or copyright protection. Most importantly, keep improving the underlying system. A competitor may copy the visible version, but continued innovation keeps the original creator ahead.

Bobby Christy doesn’t teach marketing. He teaches why people don’t trust you and how to fix it.

With over 40 years in sales and marketing, Bobby has built his reputation on a simple truth: most marketing doesn’t fail because of traffic. It fails because of trust.

Today, that problem is bigger than ever. Buyers aren’t just searching Google. They’re asking AI who to trust. And if your business doesn’t show up with real proof, clear positioning, and consistent authority, you don’t get chosen.

Through his Authority Framework™, Authority Score™, and Authority Audit™, he helps service-based businesses:

  • Turn invisible brands into recognized authorities

  • Find and fix the trust leaks killing conversions

  • Show up where AI and search engines are already looking

  • Build proof that makes prospects choose them faster

At TW3 Marketing, the mission is simple: Build trust first. Growth follows.

Text the word AUTHORITY to (678) 922-4561 and find out where your business really stands.
