Seven Businesses. One Blind Spot I Didn't Expect to Find
Seven Businesses. One Blind Spot.
It showed up in every Authority Audit I completed this week.
This week, I completed seven Authority Audits.
Seven different businesses.
Four different industries.
Different markets. Different owners. Different stories.
I expected to find seven different problems.
I didn't.
What surprised me wasn't what these businesses were doing wrong.
It was what they assumed customers already knew.
One owner had nearly three decades of experience.
Another had built a business almost entirely through referrals.
Another had customers who genuinely loved working with them.
Those are incredible advantages.
The problem?
Very little of it was visible online.
It made me stop and think.
As business owners, we spend years building our reputation.
Then we expect a first-time visitor to understand it in five minutes.
But how could they?
They've never met us.
They've never heard our customer stories.
They don't know what makes us different.
All they can evaluate is what they see.
That's one of the biggest patterns I've noticed from performing Authority Audits.
The businesses that struggle to earn trust online usually aren't less capable than their competitors.
They're simply asking potential customers to connect dots that were never put on the page.
That's a hard thing to see when you're the owner.
You already know your story.
You already know why customers stay.
You already know what makes your business special.
A first-time visitor knows none of that.
That's why I believe every business owner should look at their website, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn profile, and online presence through one simple lens.
If I were seeing this business for the very first time, what would I actually know?
Not what I assume.
Not what I hope.
What would I know?
That single question has changed the way I look at every Authority Audit.
And more often than not, it reveals opportunities that the owner never realized were there.
Until next week,
Bobby
