The Customer You Never Knew You Lost
The Customer You Never Knew You Lost
That's the one I've been thinking about this week.
Not every lost customer tells you why they walked away.
Most don't tell you anything.
They don't call.
They don't send an email.
They don't complain.
They simply keep looking.
That's what struck me after another week of Authority Audits.
Business owners usually know when they lose a bid.
They know when a proposal gets rejected.
They know when a customer chooses a competitor.
But they almost never know about the customer who left before the conversation even started.
The person who visited the website.
Looked at a few pages.
Checked Google reviews.
Maybe clicked over to LinkedIn.
Then quietly disappeared.
No notification.
No explanation.
No second chance.
That customer doesn't leave because they know your business.
They leave because they don't.
That's an important distinction.
This week, I kept seeing businesses with years of experience, loyal customers, and excellent reputations.
The expertise was there.
The evidence wasn't always visible.
And when customers can't clearly see why they should trust a business, they don't usually argue.
They move on.
That may be the biggest hidden cost of weak authority.
Not the customers you know you lost.
The ones you never knew you had.
It's made me look at websites, Google Business Profiles, LinkedIn profiles, and customer stories a little differently.
They're not just marketing assets.
They're often your only chance to answer a customer's questions before they make a decision you'll never know about.
Sometimes the biggest opportunities in business don't announce themselves.
Sometimes they simply disappear.
And unless you know where to look, you'll never realize they were there.
Until next week,
Bobby

Most marketing doesn’t fail because of traffic.
It fails because of trust.
Today, that problem is bigger than ever.
